Athens Ben Epps Airport is a public airport located near the central business district of Athens. The airport is owned by the Clarke County and serves the greater area of Athens, Georgia. The airport was named after the first aviator in the history of Georgia - Ben T. Epps. The airport has been opened to the public since the early 1900s. Mostly used for general aviation, its main commercial airline for scheduled passenger flights was the Essential Air Service. In 2008, the airport began serving two flights daily to Charlotte via the Air Midwest that operates as the U.S. Airway Express.
