It is a new airport having been inaugurated only in July of 2013. Since it opened, KFS airport has been operating regular domestic flights only to Istanbulvia IST Airport and SAW Airport through Turkish Airlines. It is managed by the General Directorate of State Airports of Turkey. The airport has been serving Kastamonu as well as several adjacent towns in the Kastamonu province.
