San Cristobal de las Casas, A Mountainous Town of Faith and Festivities
Known locally as the town of Jovel, San Cristobal de las Casas, Mexico is a municipality belonging to the Chiapas state in the Central Highlands region. The municipality once served as the state capital up until 1892. Today, Jovel is recognized as the cultural capital of the state. San Cristobal de las Casas' landscape is mostly mountainous, although the town stands at a valley bordered by hills.
