Siquijor: Exploring the Beauty of the Coastal Town in the Philippines’ Isla del Fuego
Officially known as the Municipality of Siquijor, Siquijor, Philippines, is a town in the island province of Siquijor in the Central Visayas region. The city is composed of a total of 42 barangays and serves as the province’s capital. Although Siquijor was discovered by Spanish priests in 1780, it wasn’t until fourteen years later that the town was established as a municipality, and a parish was constructed. You can fly into Siquijor via Dumaguete Airport, found in the nearby province of Negors, or Tagbilaran Airport located in the province of Bohol.
Best Time to Visit
The town is marked with a tropical monsoon climate, where half of the year is dry, and the other half is wet. If you’re planning on coming to Siquijor, best book your trip in October when the town celebrates its annual Dilaab Festival, a local fiesta honoring St. Francis of Assisi, Siquijor’s patron saint. Summers are also an excellent season to visit the town, especially since the city is near the coast. On the other hand, there are fewer tourists in the area in the winter, so most of Siquijor, Philippine hotels are available and discounted.
