The Sarajevo International Airport with the airport code SJJ, is located in Butmir, Ilidza in Bosnia and Herzegovina. It is just west of the country’s capital Sarajevo. The airport sits at an elevation of 1,708 feet. The first flights into Sarajevo started in the 1930s. This was done through an airfield in Butmir. The construction of the Sarajevo International Airport in its new location began in 1966. It opened in 1969. At present, it is one of the busiest airports in the country and in 2017, plans for terminal expansion were announced and was scheduled to be completed in 2020.
