Wildwood: Fun in the Doo-wop Capital
Known as the "Doo-wop Capital", as a pop culture reference to Bill Haley & His Comets' Rock Around the Clock, Wildwood's HofBrau Hotel bore witness to America's first Rock and Roll song performed live. Located 36 miles south of Vineland, New Jersey and about 69 miles from Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, Wildwood, NJ belongs to Cape May County, on the southern shore of New Jersey, a favorite tourist resort in the summer months. The motels bear characteristic neon signs and unique architecture, though these have long been torn down and replaced with condominiums. Today, Wildwood's beaches boast posh hotels and luxurious BnBs that cater to every type of traveler and can be accessible through the Atlantic City International Airport.
Best Time to Visit
Wildwood New Jersey is known to have at least 13 days of precipitation for each winter month, so tourists are unlikely to visit during these times, keeping room rates at a minimum. Most tourists prefer to flock to Wildwood during the summer, especially during Beach Blast Fri/Mon week in late June and the 4th of July celebrations. This is the city's busiest season, so it is wise to book accommodations at least 3 months early as hotel rates are at the highest during these times. Instead, plan a trip in early fall when temperatures are still pleasantly temperate but room rates are 45% less compared to what you would have paid in July. Temperatures are in the mid-70s, a little cooler than the average 80°F in the high season.
