Westport Airport was established in 1947 and used to serve Air Travel that connects Westport to Hokitika and Nelson. In 1952, a larger aircraft served the airport, and by 1966, Westport has accommodated about 7,000 passengers. In 2008, the airport was renovated by installing a new runway lighting system. Currently, the airport has daily flight schedules that were arranged to meet the needs of Westport's business community as well as for recreational use. Upon arrival at the airport, there are rental vehicles that are available for passengers that can take them to Inchbonnie, Nine Mile, or Moana.
