The Akita Airport is a public airport located within Akita, Japan. This second-class airport has an airport code of AXT, and was inaugurated in 1961. From its location along the Omonogawa Coast, the airport transferred in 1981, and formally became Tohoku region’s first civilian airport. It served as a search and rescue field for the Japan Air Self-Defense Force. In 1993, the AXT Akita began scheduled international flights.
