Formerly known as the Buffalo Bill Historical Center, Buffalo Bill Center of the West is a research library center and a group of five museums featuring artifacts of the Western America located in Cody, Wyoming. The five museums are made up of Plains Indians Museum, Buffalo Bill Museum, The Whitney Western Art Museum, the Cody Firearms Museum and the Draper Natural History Museum. Established in 1917 by Colonel William F. “Buffalo Bill” Cody, this museum is the most comprehensive and oldest museum complex in Wyoming. The New York Times, describe Buffalo Bill Center of the West as “among of the nation’s most remarkable museums.” In 2012, the center was awarded by the National Tour Association as the “favorite museum for groups.”
Visitors who will visit the museum will also have the chance to explore other nearby attractions within Cody and its nearby cities of Wapili and Powell. Located just 1 mile from the Center is the classic place called Cody Dug Up Gun Museum with vast collection of vintage weapons and antiques from the Civil Wars.
