Cheboygan is a city in Michigan whose name originated from the Cheboygan River. Although there is no concrete meaning behind the name of the city, it is believed to be Ojibwe in origin and loosely translates to “Sewing Needle” or “A Place of Ore”. Situated at the mouth of the Cheboygan River on the Lake Huron, it serves as the home of Debbie Massey, famous golfer that won three LPGA Tour events. Cheboygan is popularly known as the “Gateway to the Waterways” and serves as the home of three lakes, three rivers and 40 long miles of inland boating areas.

June to September offers the best weather in the region, however, February is considered to be the most crowded time in the area for tourism. Book early because Cheboygan, MI hotel rates are quite expensive during this month.

Captivating shows, musicals and celebrations are hosted at the Victorian designed building Cheboygan Opera House. This 582-seat theater is a multi-use building that also houses the town’s city hall and the police headquarters.
