Cirebon: A City in Indonesia Rich in Culture and Festivities
Located at the northern coast of Java island, Cirebon is a port city in Indonesia. In history, it has been influenced by Javanese and Sundanese culture when observed in the central and western Java border. It was a former Sultanate, founded by Sunang Gunungjati who have signed its independence in the year 1482. It is believed that the name came from a Javanese word “caruban” meaning mixed, to which resembles its cultural history.

Festivities mostly focus on celebrating the abundance in terms of their agricultural treasures namely Sideka Bumi which celebrates earth as it blesses farmers on harvests (August), NgunJung which is their way of thanking Allah and their ancestral spirits, Kasimonan which is for the youth, Mapag Tambra which is for weeding and planting and Mapag Sri which is welcoming the rice goddess (May).

Port of Cirebon is a seaport that has much use for Cirebon locals and tourists. It serves as the dock for passenger seacrafts, as well as the main dock for transporting liquid asphalt, coal and vegetable oils to the hinterland of West Java.
