Among Greenfield’s many historic places is the Adair County Courthouse. The building features Romanesque architecture and was constructed in 1891 by architect S.E. Maxon. While most of the structure is still preserved, it bears signs of damage from past wars, notably a missing gazebo burned down in World War I. The Greenfield Municipal Airport houses the Iowa Aviation Museum, which preserves Iowa’s rich history in aviation, with displays that feature aircraft from all throughout the 1900s.
