Gurney Airport is considered a public airport that is located in Alotau, Papua New Guinea. It serves Alotau, the capital of Mine Bay Province, and its neighboring towns as well. Gurney or GUR Airport is operated by the country government and is serviced by a number of airlines connecting Alotau to other areas in the country.

Gurney Airport’s history goes as far back as World War II. The airport was built by the US Army and consisted of two parallel runways. It was named Gurney Field back in September 1942. The airfield later on opened in 1966 to serve passenger flights. The airport today now resides on land elevated at 88 feet above mean sea level. There is only one functioning runway measuring 5,545 feet long and features an asphalt surface. Airlines connecting the airport to other destinations in the country include Air Niugini, PNG Air, and Travel Air. Nearby towns including Gaduda, Hewiia, and Gibara benefit from the presence of GUR airport.
