It is a state owned and operated regional airport that serves as the primary airport handling the aviation needs of the whole city of Hagerstown as well as its nearby cities of Chambersburg, Waynesboro, Carroll Valley and Mercersburg. The airport is part of the National Integrated Airport Systems by the FAA for 2011 to 2015 and classified it as a general aviation service facility.
