James H. Gray Sr. Civic Center (also referred to as the Albany Civic Center) is a multipurpose arena situated in Albany, Georgia. Its construction was driven by the efforts of the late mayor James H. Gray to revive the downtown area of Albany after plenty of long-established offices shut down in 1976. The complex was then named after him after his sudden passing in 1986. Soon enough, a 10,240-seat arena was built. It features 4,300 square meters of exhibit space while another 600 square meters are meant for the meeting room. Some notable events that were held in the Civic Center include the SEC Women's Basketball Tournament (1987 to 1992), professional wrestling events like the SuperBrawl IV (1994) and two episodes of WCW Monday Nitro, and the filming of “Mary, Mary” by the hip-hop group Run-DMC.
