Lava Lands Visitor Center
Lava Lands Visitor Center is a barren landscape situated in Central Oregon. It is situated in the town of Bend, Oregon. During the 60s, NASA is looking for a training center that resembled the topography of the moon. In the north side of the Newberry National Volcanic Monument, the Lava Lands is located. It was created about 7000 years ago when Lava Butte exploded. A jagged lava rock created a geological landscape that served as a training ground for astronauts bound to the moon. The visitor center served as a hub for the monument. Overall the area is covering about 56,700 acres of lakes and other geologic features. The visitor center is a place to learn about the history of Lava Land. It has a book store, a film area and, dally exhibits.
The Lava Lands Visitor Center is accessible to towns like Black Butte Ranch and Terrebonne. Cove Palisades State Park is one of the recreational attractions in Jefferson County.
