Leshan: Where Earth and the Heavens Meet
Leshan is a prefecture-level city, formerly known as Jiading, that’s located at the Sichuan Province. The city boasts of a rich cultural heritage and is best known as a scenic destination, particularly as home to the famous Giant Buddha. Leshan, China was once famous for the flowering crabapple, but now it is known as a national key attraction. The nearest airport to Leshan is the Chengdu Shuangliu International Airport. Visitors can get to the city on the high-speed train upon arrival from Chengdu.
Best Time to Visit
Leshan, China has an advantageous location in the Sichuan Basin and is also surrounded by the Wuyou Mountain and Lingyun Mountain. Because of this, the weather in the city is fairly good. But, the best time to visit Leshan is during the spring and autumn when the weather is comfortable and hardly any cloud or rain. But if a visit to the Mt. Emeishan scenic area is in order, the Cloud Sea is more visible when the weather is cloudy.
What to Do & Area Attractions
Do not miss one of the main attractions that Leshan is famous for, the Leshan Giant Buddha. This is a 71 meter high sculpture that’s carved into a large cliff. Visit the famed Mt. Emeishan scenic area known for four spectacles namely its sunrise, the cloud sea, Buddha rays, and saint lamps. A visit to the Qianwei Confucian Temple is also memorable when in the city.
