Travelers to Heilonjiang, China use the Mudanjiang Hailang International Airport (MDG) as their gateway to the Northeast part of China. MDG is a public airport serving the city of Mudanjiang in Heilongjiang Province. It is a medium-sized airport offering scheduled domestic and international flights. It used to be known as Mudanjiang Ocean Airport and was built as an army aviation by the Japanese during WWII. After the city was liberated in 1945, the airport’s operation was given to the city. In 1985, MDG was converted into a military-civilian mixed airport and became the second civil airport in Heilongjiang Province. In 2017, it was officially renamed to Mudanjiang Hailang International Airport.

The airport had undergone 3 large-scale expansions through the years and became one of the civil aviation hubs in the Northeast in 2000 coinciding with the opening of 3 international routes in the Russian Far East. Aside from connecting to several major Chinese cities, it also serves routes to South Korea. There is one concrete runway. Over 900,000 passengers used the airport and there were more than 7,000 aircraft movements in 2018. The airport’s services spans to the cities of Mudanjiang and Hailin.
