Paul Gauguin Cultural Center, Atuona, French Polynesia
The Paul Gauguin Cultural Center is a museum located under the rule of the town of Atuona, French Polynesia in the island group of Marquesas. It was opened in 2003, marking the 100th death anniversary of the French post-Impressionist artist Paul Gaugin. The painter spent three years in Atuona before he died and was buried in the local cemetery. The museum exhibits his works, most of which are replicas, and serves as an artistic retreat for local art enthusiasts on the island.
From the Paul Gauguin Cultural Center, you can also explore the nearby Hiva Oa, considered as the second-biggest island in the Marquesas Islands at an area of 122 square miles.
