In 1942, the airport opened as Alamo Field and was used as the training base of United States Army Air Forces. With its major development in 1950 to 1975 such as new terminals, parking area expansion and control tower, the airport has become equipped to cater domestic and international flights. As of today, the airport is planning to add another terminal with 11 more gates targeting to start this 2020.
