San Jose Airport – SJI Airport
San Jose Airport is a domestic airport located in San Jose, Philippines. The airport serves the major towns and municipalities in Occidental Mindoro. The airport has been serving the region since 1951 and is currently under the management of the Civil Aviation Authority of the Philippines. SJI Airport sits at 4 meters above mean sea level. The airport is among the three airports that currently operates in Occidental Mindoro, the others being Mamburao Airport and Lubang Airport.
Best Time to Visit
Originally an American facility that was equipped during World War II, San Jose Airport originally took the name Thomas McGuire Airport, after one of the leaders of the 5th Air Force stationed in the former airstrip. The American forces abandoned it shortly after the conclusion of the war. It was later renovated and opened as a domestic airport in 1951 under the leadership of President Elpidio Quirino. Another rehabilitation to further improve the facilities in the airport was implemented in 2013. At present, flights to Manila via Cebu Pacific Airline are the current route served in the airport. Bulalacao is the nearest tourist destination close to the airport.
