Stade: Clouded and Timbered Ancient German Town
Stade, Germany is an attractive town in the Lower Saxony region on the northern part of the country. It is officially called as Hanseatic City of Stade in documents. Hamburg, a more visited city, is just an hour a few minutes away. The town is famous for its timber houses and infrastructures. In fact, it sits on the German-Timber-Frame Road. In the medieval times, the town served as a fortress and a harbor.
Best Time to Visit
Like the rest of the country, basking under the sun is rarely enjoyed over at Stade considering the entire town is more often hidden beneath the clouds. For that matter, it is often cold in town with slim chances of snow during winter while light to moderate rain showers throughout the year. As most attractions in town are indoor, it doesn't really matter when you go for a visit. However, if you are not fond of the cold, the best time would be between June and August. Tourists are quite a number during these months and Stade hotels do not come cheap.
What to Do & Area Attractions
Freilichtmuseum Stade and Stadeum are both museums which you can visit during your trip to Stade. The former focuses on the town’s history while the latter is more of a convention and cultural center. Another interesting and entertaining museum would be the Schloss Agathenburg which focuses on literature and music. The 3-star hotel and restaurant complex called Kiek In Hotel Zur Einkehr is one of the closest Stade accommodations to the city center. In front of the harbor, you will find the H+ Hotel Stade which also has a restaurant on-site.
