Savoonga Airport is a public use airport owned by the US State of Alaska. It is a public air facility that is located 4 km south of central Savoonga, Alaska and serves the Savoonga area. Its airport code, SVA, stands for the county city’s name Savoonga. Since Savoonga is an island, the only means of transporting on and off the area is through airplane. Improvements of Savoonga airstrip started in 1974. Savoonga government made effort to enhance aviation facilities through legislation in 1976. As of the present year, the airport continues serving Savoonga with two based airlines.
