Valdez, Exploring the Quaint, Little Town in the Fjord
The city of Valdez, Alaska, home to about 4,000 residents in 2010, was named after the Spanish Navy Minister, Antonio Valdés y Fernández Bazán in 1790. The town is located on the eastern portion of Prince William Sound, comfortably nestled at the head of a fjord. Valdez boasts of its commercial fishing port which is not only among the most significant ones in the state but also witnessed catastrophic damages throughout its construction. Valdez, AK is categorized into the subarctic climate with cool temperatures for most of the year. Early July to mid-August are the ideal dates for planning a trip to the city as they have better chances of clearer skies and mild temperatures. While July is the city’s busiest month, August also accommodates a significant number of tourist as they come into town for the annual Valdez Season Festival. June is also a pretty active month for Valdez as they host a handful of summer events for the locals. Valdez, AK hotels have the least number of guests in November.
